  Notes on Jane Winchester: Jane was the daughter of Winchester and Elizabeth Purcell. She arrived in the South Australian port of Adelaide on 25th May 1855 on the ship Punjab. Jane married Charles Skinner in 1859. Charles and Jane had 5 children, Elizabeth Alice, Herbert Charles and Emily Catherine were all born in the Melbourne Vic. area. By 1865 they had moved to Cambrian Hill near Ballarat where Charles worked in one of the gold mines at Blacklead. Their last two childen Ernest Daniel and Eliza Frances were born at Cambrian Hill. Tragedy struck the family when Emily died in 1866 aged three and Ernest in 1867 aged 2 and that same year Charles was killed in a mine cave in. Jane married Samuel Colman in 1868 and they had eight children. They moved to Newcastle in 1876. Samuel died in 1893, and Jane continued to live in the area until her death in 1927 aged 87.
