  • Notes
    • Jindalee Lions Club.
Eighty members and friends of the Jindalee Lions Clubs saw John Austin installed as their new President. The Guest of Honour was Alderman Gordon Thomson who proposed the toast to Lions International. Alderman Thomson praised the work of Lions throughout the world, throughout Australia and in particular the Lions in our area, for work done during the flood period and for other community service. Apart from activities arising out of the flood, the Jindalee Lions have been active in many fields in the past twelve months. In his report, outgoing President, Bob Meredith mentioned such varied activities as a school Essay Competition, Lucky Numbers continuing, Curragundi Road playground under construction, Melbourne Cup sweep, Youth of the Year Quest in which Jindalee Club hosted the Regional Finals, Christmas party at the Jindalee Nursing Home, a start on the Bar-B-Que and picnic area at the Boat Ramp, social functions held, Citizenship prize to Oxley High School and an interhouse shield to Jindalee State School.
The Club participated in a motor car safety check, sales of Save Sight Christmas Cakes, Miss Personality and other District Projects. A small carnival was organised to re-open the shops at Looranah Street, after the flood and an Extravaganza was held for flood victims. These and many other projects made it very interesting and worthwhile year for the club. With John Austin and his board of directors guiding a very strong club, 1974-75 promises to be even better.
